48 State Quarters are out. Alaska, where I was born, has its quarter debuting in September, and Hawaii, the 50th state, comes out in November.
This has been a long time coming. I remember where I was in January 1999, when this series began. I hadn't gone back to college yet. Bill Clinton had not yet been acquitted of certain impeachment charges. The Dow had never reached 10,000. JFK Jr. was still alive. Hugo Chavez had not taken over in Venezuela. And most of you had never even heard of George W. Bush or Osama bin Laden.
When this historic commemorative issue comes to an end, you're going to want something to remember it with. These sets make a great gift item, or if you're a numismatist like me, you might just want one for yourself. Either way, grab a piece of Americana.
